Arkansas Trophy Trout- (870) 404-9027

Email

A beautiful summer morning overlooking the Norfork Tailwater

"Goat's Bluff"- Norfork, Arkansas

Scuds in hand (above): When the water is low, scuds (also called "freshwater shrimp") are an abundant food source, and the trout will often 'key in' on these tasty morsels. Can you tell which are the shrimp and which is the fly. If you can't, I guess I tie a good imitation!

When the water is low, we can get into some of the most ideal fly fishing water in the world.

The next three images tell a dramatic story...

Two units come on line at Norfork Dam

Wading anglers must always be aware of flow increases that can cause water levels to rise anywhere from 2 to 6 feet on the Norfork Tailwater. A horn can be heard near the dam, but fishermen downstream must be very aware of rising water.

This is near the spot in the earlier picture with two full generators running. Now the most productive fly fishing is done from a boat, and many of the trophy fish landed come during high water conditions.

The dynamic has changed!!!

Nice brown on the drift

This fish took a worm imitation on the first drift of the morning. Although high water does not offer conditions for the purist, the fishing is easy and fun. Plus many of the river's biggest brookies and browns 'turn on' during the heaviest of flows.

Low water wading or high water drifting, the tailwaters of the White River Basin offer something for everyone...whether you like it or not!!!
